This position is located in the Statistical Services Branch, Statistics Division, the Department of Economic and Social Affairs (DESA). The Senior Statistician reports to the Chief of the Branch. The Statistics Division is committed to the advancement of the global statistical system. The Division compiles and disseminates global statistical information, develop standards and norms for statistical activities, and support countries' efforts to strengthen their national statistical systems. 工作內(nèi)容
Within delegated authority, the Senior Statistician will be responsible for the following duties:
?Plans and directs the Branch’s work programme on statistical analysis and methodological work related to the SDG indicators and review progress of the 2030 agenda for sustainable development, providing both technical and managerial supervision of all activities.
?Initiates, plans and directs preparation of the annual progress report on the Sustainable Development Goals and other publications, manuals and web sites on SDG indicators and monitoring.
?Plans and directs technical advisory activities for national capacity building through missions, consultations and training workshops.
?Supervises and undertakes the development of new or improved statistical methods for SDG indicators.
?Plans, prepares and organizes the two annual meetings of the IAEG-SDGs and prepare progress reports and other technical documentation the meetings.
?Maintains close liaison and co-operation within the field of responsibility throughout the organization and with other relevant national and international institutions to ensure full co-ordination and to avoid duplication of efforts.
?Represents the organization at international and regional meetings and inter-agency activities.
?Plans, organizes and manages staff; plans and discusses individual work programmes with staff and evaluates their performance.

專業(yè)要求
Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent degree) in statistics, mathematics, economics, sociology or related field is required. A first-level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying work experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
工作經(jīng)驗
A minimum of ten years of progressively responsible experience in the collection, compilation, analysis and dissemination of statistical data or related area is required. Experience with Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Indicators and Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) related data and monitoring is desirable.
語言要求
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this post advertised, fluency in oral and written English is required. Knowledge of another UN official language is an advantage.
