Appointment against this position is for an initial period of one year and may be subject to extension.

The United Nations Environment Programme (UN Environment) is the leading global environmental authority that sets the global environmental agenda, promotes the coherent implementation of the environmental dimension of sustainable development within the United Nations system and serves as an authoritative advocate for the global environment. UN Environment's Ecosystems Division works with international and national partners, providing technical assistance and advisory services for the implementation of environmental policy, and strengthening the environmental management capacity of developing countries and countries with economies in transition. This post is located in Ecosystems Division at the Athens duty station.

工作內(nèi)容

The incumbent will be under the direct supervision of the Deputy Coordinator and the overall supervision of the Coordinator respectively. Within delegated authority, the incumbent will be responsible for the following duties:
? Consider the provisions of the above legal instruments and formulate policies and strategies for their implementation by the Governments by:
1). Following up the reporting system for the three Protocols , assessing barriers to compliance, identifying policy, institutional and technical needs and assumptions and formulating and following up appropriate activities,
2). Contracting and negotiating with relevant Government officers, Non-Governmental Organizations, UN Agencies, experts and other regional and national stakeholders,
3). Coordinating the process of developing/updating regional and national policies and National Action Plans,
4). following the development, formulation and implementation of regional projects with regional and national stakeholders,
5). Organizing technical assistance and capacity building programmes.
? Collecting information and liaising as appropriate with other regional and global Conventions and Secretariats and the European Commission in order to follow up and make use of the scientific, technical and policy developments at the regional and global level for the appropriate formulation of activities and in particular of pollution control measures, targets and deadlines, liaise with International Financial Institutions (IFI) to catalyze the financing of pollution control measures.
? Organizing, and attending on behalf of the Programme for the Assessment and Control of Marine Pollution in the Mediterranean (MED POL), technical and policy meetings related to the implementation of the provisions of the Protocols and the SAP. Preparing the Med Pol Focal Points meeting and representing the Programme for the Assessment and Control of Marine Pollution in the Mediterranean (MED POL), at the Executive Coordination Panel (ECP).

專業(yè)要求

Advanced University degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in environmental sciences, marine sciences, environmental engineering or a related field. A first-level university degree in combination with qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.

工作經(jīng)驗(yàn)

A minimum of seven years of progressively responsible experience in national and international administration/institutions dealing with formulation and implementation of pollution assessment and control programmes. Knowledge of the issues related to marine pollution in the Mediterranean region is an asset.

語(yǔ)言要求

Fluency in English and working knowledge in French are required. Knowledge of additional Mediterranean languages is highly desirable.
